Payroll Specialist

Job Description
BIG is looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist to join our team. This person is responsible for helping ensure accurate entry of all payroll related data and timely processing of BIG’s multi-state and multiple payrolls. The Payroll Specialist will provide general payroll information, reports and support to ancillary departments.

Primary Responsibilities
• Prepare and process U.S. bi-monthly payroll processing cycle using Paylocity for Exempt and Non-Exempt employees
• Update payroll records in Paylocity by reviewing and entering changes in employment status, exemptions, insurance coverage, direct deposit, job titles and department transfers
• Manage timecard and time off requests in Paylocity
• Process manual checks as needed for terminations, bonuses and lost checks
• Process and monitor garnishment orders and other issues that impact payroll
• Enter, update and monitor PTO balances
• Responsible for complying with local, state and federal payroll regulations
• Respond to employee inquiries concerning payroll ensuring high customer satisfaction
• Performs periodic internal audits of various payroll and benefit areas and prepare materials for external or internal auditors
• Provides support for special projects as requested by HR, Finance and other departments
• Coordinate with vendors for payment and reconciliation of employee related expenses and payables including benefit, HSA and 401(k)
• Improve existing payroll processes and internal controls

• 1+ years’ experience processing payroll in a multi-state and multi-location environment
• Knowledge of Paylocity HRIS systems a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
• High attention to detail and maintaining accuracy under pressure
• Capable of working with sensitive information and maintaining high levels of confidentiality
• Working knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws including payroll taxes, withholding, deductions and garnishments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
